kookaburras go down to cobras
Filed Under Sport | Leave a Comment
starting day two on 2 for 42, the Cobra’s ground their way to a first innings win.. scoring was very slow, with only 190 runs scored on the day..
“Handles” Stein was the stand out bowler of the day with a great 5 wicket haul.. it must be said, on such a great batting wicket all of the Kookaburras bowlers stood proud and bowled to a plan, outside off… special mention must go to “Big Wil” Davis, “Fingers” Sutcliffe, & “Groins” Clarke..
apart from the great bowling, the stand out for the cobras was Derek “Tatie” Tate.. He showed why he is one of the premier batsman in the Gabba Sporting Products Cup, with a great display of controlled batting.. “Tatie” showed the grit required to bat Cobras into a winning position, by playing the “V” and keeping the ball along the ground…. he showed patience, and determination.. well played…
the Cobra’s were too good on the day, but one would think they need to do bit more than that to win a premiership…

cobras sledge-a-thon
Filed Under Sport | Leave a Comment
never before have i copped a barrage of sledges from a bowler whilst he was at the top of his mark ready to bowl, but what can you expect from a couple of marque players having just been dispatched to all parts of the field. Playing for the Logan Village Kookaburras in the Gabba Sporting Products Cup I copped an absolute spray from a Loganholme Cobra’s bowler, while he was at the top of his bowling mark. As an aside the Cobras are the competition leaders, so you would think they could rely on their talent not their mouths to intimidate opposition players.
i came in with the team struggling at 4/40, to face one derek tate.. my first ball was a full toss on leg stump, which i dispatched for two through mid wicket. as i passed Derek i got called a “hack”… the second ball was another full toss on leg stump, so once again I dispatched it away past the close in fielder through mid wicket this time for three, and again I was called a “hack”.. two very third grade balls from the so called grade bowler, and i’m being called the hack.. good one Derek you’re a comedian..
the next over i faced allan rowe another quality marque player.. his first ball was a juicy half volley so it was promptly dispatched to the long on boundary for four.. you can guess what happened next, the sledges and hacks came thick and fast again from the same marque players.. then mr rowe starts sledging from the top of his bowling mark even before another ball is bowled… quality cricket lads.. quality cricket.. here’s a tip boys, try using your bowling talents to beat sides, not your mouth…
